Yoga Teacher & Poet
Can you tell us about your upbringing and how it influenced your journey in the fitness/wellness field?
I've always been connected with nature. Growing up in the North East of England, surrounded by countryside and near the seaside, I spent my holidays outdoors, camping, hiking, and collecting pebbles from the coast. This keen interest in our beautiful world led me to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Physical Geography at the University of Leeds. However, my journey took an unexpected turn when I was diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (M.E.). Determined to find a solution, I learned to listen to my body's signals and tuned into my feelings, leading to a full recovery. Since then, my passion for purposeful brands and nature has driven me to become a yoga teacher and now, an ambassador for NAUTRA Activewear.
How did you get started in the fitness/wellness industry?
My journey into the fitness and wellness industry began after experiencing a powerful connection with a yoga class in Bali. Witnessing the teacher embrace their authentic self with confidence, light, and positive energy, I was inspired to explore yoga further. I started a daily consistent yoga practice and committed to learning more about living a better life.
What challenges have you faced along the way, and how did you overcome them?
COVID-19 lockdown was a significant challenge for me, as it put my initial plans to train as a yoga teacher on hold. Instead of giving up, I focused on building an Instagram community with like-minded yogis worldwide, sharing poses and poetry. This community not only supported me during those tough times but also helped me find a studio to complete my yoga teacher training after lockdown. Now, I teach yoga at various studios and events across London.
How would you describe your approach to leading a healthy and active lifestyle?
For me, leading a healthy and active lifestyle revolves around balance, variety, fun, and consistency. I aim to eat a nutritious and colorful diet, including a diverse range of fruits and vegetables daily. Practicing yoga for at least 20 minutes every day, attending studio classes regularly, and participating in workshops every few months keeps me learning and growing.
Share an intriguing or surprising fact about yourself that showcases your unique personality or interests.
I'm a creative at heart! I've written over 200 poems, enjoy drawing (especially portraits), and can play the violin at Grade 5. In the past, I even toured Germany in a Ceilidh Band! Additionally, I have a limited sense of smell or taste, which has heightened my appreciation for visual and kinesthetic experiences.
